DataConnect for Tablets & Laptops — Plus Legacy Business Connect Information
Data-only devices do not all belong on the same wireless plan. AT&T DataConnect Unlimited is designed for eligible tablets, laptops and notebooks. Business Connect has historically covered routers, scanners, hotspot devices, monitoring equipment and other specialized data-only devices.
Updated September 19, 2026. Verify plan availability before adding a new line because some older business data plans may remain on existing accounts even when they are no longer generally sold.
Start With the Device — Not the Plan Name
DataConnect Unlimited
Current DataConnect Unlimited plans are designed for qualified tablets and include Standard, Premium and Premium with Turbo options.
DataConnect Unlimited
Qualified laptops and notebooks can also use Standard, Premium or Premium with Turbo. Tethering rules are different from tablet plans.
Do Not Assume DataConnect
Routers, hotspot devices and specialized equipment can require a different plan family. Existing Business Connect lines may still appear on business accounts.
Compare Wireless Broadband
For a new router-based internet or backup-connectivity need, compare current AT&T Wireless Broadband options before using a legacy data plan.
AT&T DataConnect Unlimited for Business
DataConnect Unlimited is for qualified data-only tablets, laptops and notebooks. It is not a smartphone voice plan. Each plan is limited to one line and requires an eligible data-only device.

Important DataConnect Qualification & Billing Details
- Business/government CRU lines only: the plan requires a qualifying Business Agreement and a qualified data-only device.
- Voice-capable devices are not eligible: AT&T can move an ineligible device to an appropriate plan.
- Activation/upgrade fee: up to $50 per line may apply.
- Service-term equipment: if a device with a service-term commitment is canceled after the first 30 days but before the term ends, an early termination/cancellation fee of up to $750 can apply, depending on the equipment and remaining term.
- Taxes and AT&T fees are extra: the $25, $40 and $55 plan charges are not the entire bill.
- Roaming: use in Mexico and Canada is included, but roaming usage may be at 2G speeds and other restrictions apply.

What Does Turbo for Business Mean Here?
The $55 Premium-with-Turbo plan includes Turbo for the first 50GB of eligible business data each bill cycle. Turbo gives qualified traffic priority treatment on AT&T-owned domestic networks to help improve the network experience.

Business Connect: Legacy Account Reference
Business Connect has historically been used for qualified data-only devices such as routers, scanners, mobile hotspot devices and monitoring equipment. If these plans are already on an account, the pricing and rules below can help explain what the customer has today.
Business Connect Telemetry
Telemetry plans are for very low-data machine-to-machine applications. They are not intended for normal internet access, routers or mobile hotspot devices, and they should not be used with 5G/5G+ capable devices.

Business Connect Capped
The Capped plan starts with a 20MB monthly allowance and a $29.99 monthly service charge. Additional data is billed at the applicable pay-per-use rate, but the combined monthly service charge and data overage charges are capped at $129.99 for the month.
Business Connect Backup
Backup plans were designed for qualified devices with higher data use that need internet access. Backup lines on the same billing account form their own pooled-data group, separate from Telemetry.

Business Connect Pooling Rules
Telemetry lines pool only with other Telemetry lines on the same Billing Account Number. Backup lines pool only with other Backup lines on that same Billing Account Number. A Telemetry pool cannot share unused data with a Backup pool, and Capped lines do not participate in pooled data.
Unused data in a Telemetry or Backup pool can help offset overage on other eligible lines in that same pool during the billing cycle. Remaining unused data does not roll forward to a future month.

For a New Router, Hotspot or Backup-Internet Need
Do not automatically select a legacy Business Connect plan simply because the device is a router or hotspot. For a new deployment, compare the current plan families first.

- Mobile Select for qualifying pooled data use.
- Unlimited Your Way for smartphone-focused unlimited plans and qualifying connected-device options.
- Business Internet & Fiber Solutions when the need is primary or backup internet for a fixed business location.
What This Page Is Trying to Prevent
- Putting a smartphone on a data-only plan that was not designed for it.
- Putting a router or hotspot on a tablet/laptop plan because both use cellular data.
- Reading “after 50GB, up to 3Mbps” as if speed increases after 50GB; it means the speed is reduced to a maximum of 3Mbps.
- Assuming DataConnect receives an additional Foundation Account service discount when the plan terms say it does not.
- Treating Telemetry, Capped and Backup as one shared pool.
- Quoting a legacy Business Connect plan for a new deployment without verifying current availability.
