LTE Roaming Internationally
What is needed for AT&T customers to roam internationally at Long Term Evolution (LTE) speeds?
There are 2 requirements:
- An LTE network needs to be commercially available to AT&T customers in the visited country.
- AT&T tests with every carrier worldwide as they build out their LTE networks and make them available to roamers.
- When AT&T launches LTE service in new countries, AT&T puts that information in the AT&T Travel Guide.
- The device needs to support LTE and the frequency (band) used to deploy LTE over the network in the country where the customer is traveling.
- All AT&T LTE devices support Band 4. It allows LTE roaming:
- Canada: Available on the Rogers network.
- Mexico: Will be available in the future.
- Other countries offer LTE over different bands. The common bands are three, seven, and 20.
- All AT&T LTE devices support Band 4. It allows LTE roaming:
If LTE isn't available, or an LTE device doesn't support the necessary frequency band, the customer automatically attaches to the next-fastest data speed (4G).
The world phone customer continues to have data service abroad no matter what.
AT&T adds LTE countries and carriers as they become available. This article helps you address customers' questions about LTE availability while roaming internationally. To see if an LTE device can support access to LTE networks in countries visited, use the AT&T Travel Guide.
